Castle Oaks Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Ione, California, about 35 miles southeast of Sacramento in the Gold Country
Castle Oaks golf course first opened for play in 1994. The course was designed by Bradford Benz.
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,739 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,953 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 1, a par-5 that plays to 577 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 155 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 7, a 424 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 11, a 173 yard par-3.
Castle Oaks was supposed to be the amenity draw for a large housing community. The course has two distinct nines, the front nine is still largely nature, the back nine is bordered with housing. Even when the housing comes to the front nine, the course will still be great, but not quite as nice as now.
Warm up before you tee off as the course challenges from the start. #1 is the longest hole on the courses, a 577-yard, par-5. #2 is a 215-yard, par-3 over water. #3 is slight dogleg right 420-yard, par-4.
#5 is a 529-yard par-5 that features a 90-degree left turn with a long run-up to a well-protected green. Trying to cut the corner only works if it works. Otherwise you are just adding strokes getting out of the woods.
# 17 and #18 are both 400-yards-plus par 4s. #18's fairway is bisected by a lake making both distance and precision a requirement for scoring well.

This is a really nice course! Plenty of challenge for all levels of players; every hole has some sort of challenge. My friends and I always love playing here, even with the drive from Sacramento.

Great layout, reasonabl;elavation changes for area, quiet/serene, pace of play terrific, challenging but fair and always well maintained. Definately one of my favorite courses within 50 milrs of Sacramento. I've played them all over the past 50 years

I've played this course at least half a dozen times, and I like it every time (even if there's one hole that gives me fits every time). It's the end of a long hot summer, so there are a few spots where the course needs a little TLC, but for the most part, the greens are in good shape, the fairways don't have any big dry patches. The one thing I don't like about this course is that the sand traps are more like hardpan than they are sand. On the other hand, that makes the 17th a lot less painful when you wind up in that monster down the left side of the fairway.

The course was in great condition . The greens true and fair . Lots of water to drink as well as in play. I will play it again.

Have played course several times over the years. Greens were recently punched and sanded, putting was a challenge. Overall rest of course was in good shape. Pace of play was slow waited on almost every shot.

The fairways were in good condition and the greens were quick. On the whole the pace of play was good. There are a few forced carries that are reasonably attainable. It is a very good track for the price. We will be back.

Have played here numerous times. Beautiful setting with views of the surrounding hills. Nicely maintained. Very good challenge - especially from the back tees. Pace of play is a chronic problem here primarily from inexperienced players taking advantage of specials.

Played it several times in the past, due to lack of rainfall in northern Calif this year, course is in the best shape ever, especially the greens. Played for $36 with a cart (discount rate), pace of play was pretty good, considering we were a 2some following at least 2 foursomes.

Don't be afraid to make the drive from Sacramento to play this one. Great course with two very different nines -- one a Sacramento oaks-type course, the other a wide-open resort nine. Very serene, very picturesque.
